Who Am I
A teacher and therapist with a wide range of expertise and experience. As well as a licensed and skilled practitioner that has many years of combined experience and training to provide personalized attention for improved functioning, and rejuvenation.
I continually enhance my skills through ongoing advanced training and practice a wide range of techniques and modalities in order to effectively and positively impact a client/student's health.
Utilizing my B.S. degree in Psychology/Exercise Physiology and with over 15 years of experience to offer you the best mind/body therapies possible. I began studying Mind/Body philosophy at age 16 by reading the book "Biology of Hope" by Norman Cousins, MD. He coined the term "psycho-neuro-immunology: This truly stimulated my passion for where I am today.
I received my first teaching Certification in Hatha Yoga from Lex Gillan and later received a Certification in Vinyasa Flow Yoga and YA-200 from Stephanie Keach. I have taken workshops with Ranjani Cobo, Bryant Kest, Shiva Rea, Doug Kellor and many others. My strongest influence has been Ashtanga Yoga and have always found the importance of mindful breath and alignment within the flow.... a blissful aspect of the yoga experience.
A Licensed Massage Therapist since 1995.
I Created, Owned and Managed "madia's studio" from 2000-2010 and after having a child, decided that managing employees and the added pressures was no longer of interest to me and was not where I wanted to expend my energy. It is in my relationship directly with my clients and students is where i find the flow of energy.
It is such a pleasure to be in private practice again to bring all my experience and attention into a laser beam focus on my clients and students.
My Inspirations
Bamboo is one of my many inspirations for joy and peace because of its integration of complimentary qualities. As an ancient saying goes: "Be like bamboo. It is strong on the outside and soft and open on the inside. The stem stands freely in the wind and bends, it does not resist. What bends is harder to break.
Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes.
If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you
would be paralyzed.
Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and
coordinated as bird wings.
- Rumi
Yoga teachers will often refer to "your practice," which means your individual experience with yoga as it develops over time. The amazing thing about yoga is that your practice is always evolving and changing, so it never gets boring. Although the poses themselves do not change, your relationship to them will. Anyone can start a yoga practice, even if you don't feel like you are very flexible or very strong. These things will develop over time. Another great thing about thinking about "your practice" is that it encourages the noncompetitive spirit of yoga. One of the most difficult, but ultimately most liberating things about yoga is letting go of the ego and accepting that no one is better than anyone else. Everyone is just doing their best on any given day.
Yoga is a practice for optimizing the health of the body and quieting the mind. It includes a variety of activities, including postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation (dhyana), and lifestyle practices. According to a year 2000 survey, it is estimated that over 15 million Americans currently practice this ancient art.
Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word yuj, which means to yoke, join, or apply. Yoga is usually translated as union, for its methods and practices lead to a profound integration of body, mind, and spirit.
The yogic ideal is to achieve complete freedom and authenticity by transcending the limiting structures of the ego-personality (the person we behave as on a normal day) and discovering the true spiritual self within.
YinYang Flow:
A unique practice linking poses to breath to reveal body awareness, inner strength and yin poses to explore easeful opening.
Designed to awaken self-awareness of the body through a gentle, but deep approach that integrates yin and yang poses naturally. There is an emphasis on breathing and letting go, while linking one pose to the next. I encourage students to feel alignment from within.
We will use the poses to get into our bodies not our bodies to get into the poses. Curiosity and self acceptance are encouraged for this class. We will practice between challenge and ease. Meditation will also be a part of this practice as you learn to become as present as possible. A practice for all levels that flows with awareness.
Core Powe Flow:
This class has been designed to make the abdominals and back stronger. It emphasizes abs-focused Vinyasa's with standard Power Yoga asanas. By unchaining and releasing athletic power the practitioner develops supple strength. It physically and mentally challenges the practitioner to connect to an inner power. Core Power Yoga helps heal, detoxify and rouse the body and mind. This is done through balance and intention. This is a vigorous and challenging practice, one which blends strength, perspiration and mindfulness.
Power Yoga was taken to the west by followers of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. He is an acclaimed Yogi and Sanskrit scholar who inspired Western Yogis with his Ashtanga Yoga Style and philosophies.
Flow Yoga is a great way to learn so much about your body, gain strength and awareness, and eventually, if you like to intensify the practice...you will be ready for Power Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga or Yoga Flow, if desired.
What To Expect From a Power/Vinyasa/Flow Classes
This style allows for a lot of variety, but will almost certainly include Sun Salutations. If your yoga class schedule lists a Vinyasa class, expect movement, not just stretching. Whether the class is fast or slow, includes meditation, or is very alignment-oriented will depend on the individual teacher. Some very popular yoga styles, such as Ashtanga and Power Yoga, make use of the Vinyasa method, but they will be listed on a class schedule by their individual names.

Celebrate and experience a transformative shift through private sessions
Private sessions are held in my healing arts space and can be arranged in your home. Small private group sessions are also available upon request.
Each private session begins with a client health profile interview that considers your past health and lifestyle conditions and gives you an opportunity to reflect on what changes you would like to make to enhance your present lifestyle. Whether it be simply to learn techniques to identify and release stress or to immerse yourself in a program that will foster a deeper internal experience, you will be encouraged to view this process as originating from you, and along with skillful facilitation there will be an opportunity for you to realize your goals and intentions.

Yogassage sessions can be tailored to the individual, soothing aching backs or joints, releasing tensions in busy muscles, or invigorating the circulation of the body and awareness of the mind. It can target certain muscle groups, and encourages the deepening of postures and the release of unhealthy body holding patterns. With the hectic pace and demands of modern life, many people feel stressed and over-worked. It often feels like there is just not enough time in the day to get everything done. Our stress and tiredness make us unhappy, impatient and frustrated. It can even affect our health.
We are often so busy we feel there is no time to stop and meditate! But meditation actually gives you more time by making your mind calmer and more focused. A simple ten or fifteen minute breathing meditation as explained below can help you to overcome your stress and find some inner peace and balance.
Meditation can also help us to understand our own mind. We can learn how to transform our mind from negative to positive, from disturbed to peaceful, from unhappy to happy. Overcoming negative minds and cultivating constructive thoughts is the purpose of meditation. This is a profound spiritual practice you can enjoy throughout the day, not just while seated in meditation.
