My Inspirations
Bamboo is one my inspirations for optimal health because of its integration of complimentary qualities. As an ancient saying goes: Be like bamboo. It is strong on the outside and soft and open on the inside. The stem stands freely in the wind and bends, it does not resist. What bends is harder to break.
We are at our healthiest when we integrate complimentary qualitiesstrength and resilience, with yielding and ease. Massage and yoga can help to foster this dynamic, healthy balance.
Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes.
If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you
would be paralyzed.
Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and
coordinated as bird wings.
- Rumi
Yoga teachers will often refer to "your practice," which means your individual experience with yoga as it develops over time. The amazing thing about yoga is that your practice is always evolving and changing, so it never gets boring. Although the poses themselves do not change, your relationship to them will. Anyone can start a yoga practice, even if you don't feel like you are very flexible or very strong. These things will develop over time. Another great thing about thinking about "your practice" is that it encourages the noncompetitive spirit of yoga. One of the most difficult, but ultimately most liberating things about yoga is letting go of the ego and accepting that no one is better than anyone else. Everyone is just doing their best on any given day.
Yoga is a practice for optimizing the health of the body and quieting the mind. It includes a variety of activities, including postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation (dhyana), and lifestyle practices. According to a year 2000 survey, it is estimated that over 15 million Americans currently practice this ancient art.
Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word yuj, which means to yoke, join, or apply. Yoga is usually translated as union, for its methods and practices lead to a profound integration of body, mind, and spirit. The yogic ideal is to achieve complete freedom and authenticity by transcending the limiting structures of the ego-personality (the person we behave as on a normal day) and discovering the true spiritual Self within.
Yoga For Healing:
Open to students who want the benefits of yoga with out the flow component. You will learn the basics while building strength and flexibility. You will also spend time working with your breath to create ease of body and mind. This is a practice perfect for anyone that wants to heal an injury and/or learn how to prevent injury.
Mindful Yoga Flow:
A practice for all levels. Mindful yoga is a class that flows with awareness. We move into and out of poses using the breath as our main focus. We will use the poses to get into our bodies not our bodies to get into the poses. Curiosity and self acceptance are encouraged for this class. We will practice between challenge and ease. Meditation will also be a part of this practice. Learning to become as present as possible.
Introduction to Meditation
Your session will include overview of the various types of meditation practices and how to apply them to your daily life. We will explore walking, sitting, eating practices to bring mindfulness more fully into daily life. After the first session you will be able to begin a daily practice.
Core Power Yoga:
This class has been designed to make the abdominals and back stronger. It emphasizes abs-focused Vinyasa's with standard Power Yoga asanas. By unchaining and releasing athletic power the practitioner develops supple strength. It physically and mentally challenges the practitioner to connect to an inner power. Core Power Yoga helps heal, detoxify and rouse the body and mind. This is done through balance and intention. This is a vigorous and challenging practice, one which blends strength, perspiration and mindfulness.
This style of Yoga was taken to the west by followers of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. He is an acclaimed Yogi and Sanskrit scholar who inspired Western Yogis with his Ashtanga Yoga Style and philosophies.
Slow Flow Yoga:
yoga practice linking poses to breath to reveal body awareness, inner strength and easeful opening.
Slow Flow Yoga is a practice of flowing postures (vinyasa) to awaken self-awareness of the body through a gentle, but deep approach to classical yoga. There is an emphasis on breathing and letting go, while linking one pose to the next. I encourage students to feel alignment from within.
Benefits
Slow Flow Yoga is a great way to learn so much about your body, gain strength and awareness, and eventually, if you like to intensify the practice...you will be ready for Power Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga or Yoga Flow, if desired.
What To Expect From a Power/Vinyasa/Flow Classes
This style allows for a lot of variety, but will almost certainly include Sun Salutations. If your yoga class schedule lists a Vinyasa class, expect movement, not just stretching. Whether the class is fast or slow, includes meditation, or is very alignment-oriented will depend on the individual teacher. Some very popular yoga styles, such as Ashtanga and Power Yoga, make use of the Vinyasa method, but they will be listed on a class schedule by their individual names.
Relax, Renew, Strengthen, Open, Heal, Celebrate and experience a transformative shift through private sessions
Private sessions are held in my healing arts space and can be arranged in your home. Small private group sessions are also available upon request.
Each private session begins with a client health profile interview that considers your past health and lifestyle conditions and gives you an opportunity to reflect on what changes you would like to make to enhance your present lifestyle. Whether it be simply to learn techniques to identify and release stress or to immerse yourself in a program that will foster a deeper internal experience, you will be encouraged to view this process as originating from you, and along with skillful facilitation there will be an opportunity for you to realize your goals and intentions.

Yogassage is a form of bodywork that incorporates assisted yoga asanas (poses) and therapeutic massage techniques. I combine stretching and tissue manipulation. Degrees of client participation varies from passive to full involvement. Techniques used in yogassage is similar to Thai Massage.
Yogassage appeals to the ideal of Chakras of the “bodymind.” The massage combined with the yoga increase the natural comfort and balance of the body and the mind, free from stress and tension. Yogassage teachers argue that another person’s touch can bring about positive changes in the body and mind, including increased circulation, relaxation, and strength development.
Yogassage sessions can be tailored to the individual, soothing aching backs or joints, releasing tensions in busy muscles, or invigorating the circulation of the body and awareness of the mind. It can target certain muscle groups, and encourages the deepening of postures and the release of unhealthy body holding patterns. Yogassage can incorporate joint mobilization, breath work, and hand skills, or simply a passive system of stretching. It has been used by athletes and non-athletes alike to aid in physical and mental well-being.

"enjoy the spaces...
between your thoughts and distractions"
30 minutes - $40
With the hectic pace and demands of modern life, many people feel stressed and over-worked. It often feels like there is just not enough time in the day to get everything done. Our stress and tiredness make us unhappy, impatient and frustrated. It can even affect our health.
We are often so busy we feel there is no time to stop and meditate! But meditation actually gives you more time by making your mind calmer and more focused. A simple ten or fifteen minute breathing meditation as explained below can help you to overcome your stress and find some inner peace and balance.
Meditation can also help us to understand our own mind. We can learn how to transform our mind from negative to positive, from disturbed to peaceful, from unhappy to happy. Overcoming negative minds and cultivating constructive thoughts is the purpose of meditation. This is a profound spiritual practice you can enjoy throughout the day, not just while seated in meditation.

"If you and I are having a single thought of violence or hatred against anyone in the world at this moment, we are contributing to the wounding of the world..."
~Deepak Chopra
I am offering a donation-based yoga class for my dear, soul-sister, Shani Fecht who was killed one year ago on June 2nd. She was one of the most beautiful people I have ever known inside and out. She was open, adventurous, compassionate and was extraordinarily nurturing to animals (especially dogs :) and to all her "people" friends. I received so much love and kindness from her and know that this world is now missing a sweet and very special energy. I love you, Shani !! In honor of YOU!
June 5th 12-1:00p - ahimsa Yoga - all levels - Northshore Yoga
this class will be a slow/power yoga that will carry the theme/vibe of ahimsa
MEANING OF AHIMSA
Ahimsa or non-injury, of course, implies non-killing. But, non-injury is not merely non-killing. In its comprehensive meaning, Ahimsa or non-injury means entire abstinence from causing any pain or harm whatsoever to any living creature, either by thought, word, or deed. Non-injury requires a harmless mind, mouth, and hand.
Ahimsa is not mere negative non-injury. It is positive, cosmic love. It is the development of a mental attitude in which hatred is replaced by love. Ahimsa is true sacrifice. Ahimsa is forgiveness. Ahimsa is Sakti (power). Ahimsa is true strength.
