I
grew up in Huntsville, Alabama where I studied dance for 13 years.
Because of their strength, grace, and fluidity, yoga and Pilates became a
way to pursue my love of movement without the competitive nature of dance.
I began teaching yoga, Pilates, and other fitness classes in 1999.
My
style of yoga is a blend of traditional yoga and conventional strength
training principles, using your own body weight as resistance in
strength-building movements. The fluidity of vinyasa flow, the precision
of Iyengar style, and the grace of Anasura style inspire me.
My
style of Pilates stays true to the original mat work sequence, as Joseph
Pilates taught it.
I
believe strongly that all forms of exercise should accommodate the
needs of the individual, and this philosophy carries over into my teaching
style from gentle and restorative classes to physically challenging flow
classes. I also believe that understanding your own body and the
physiology of your breath is essential to any movement practice that you
choose to pursue.
In
addition to traditional yoga trainings and workshops, including pre-natal
yoga, I hold group exercise and personal training certifications through
several organizations, including YogaFit, NDEITA, AFAA, TurboKick, and
YMCA of the USA. I have also gone back to school and am currently
pursuing a degree in Respiratory Therapy.
“Yoga and Pilates can be a joy and a challenge to anyone, at any fitness
level, at any age.” |
